Jason Hughes

Jason Hughes is the founder of Hughes Marino, a global corporate real estate advisory firm that has represented companies on tens of thousands of projects, guiding them in developing and executing winning real estate strategies across office, lab and industrial sectors.

A highly influential figure in California’s commercial real estate landscape, Jason founded Hughes Marino in San Diego and grew it into the largest exclusive tenant and buyer representation firm in the region — and one of the most prominent national tenant representation firms in the country. Under his leadership, the company has expanded to major markets across the U.S. while raising the industry standard for depth of service, advocacy and tenant-side expertise.

Jason is widely recognized for pioneering California legislation that reshaped industry transparency and fairness. His work led to the passage of the Dual Agency Disclosure Bill, signed into law in 2014 and implemented in 2015, which requires brokers to disclose in writing when they represent both tenants and landlords, helping ensure tenants are informed of potential conflicts of interest.

Throughout his career, Jason has negotiated many of the largest lease and purchase transactions in multiple markets nationwide, spanning office, hotel, condominium and high-rise properties. His experience includes complex and high-value negotiations, early restructures, expansion and contraction strategies, anchor tenant leases, build-to-suit developments, loan restructuring, project financing and lease workouts. To date, he has overseen transactions totaling tens of millions of square feet and is regarded as one of the nation’s leading experts in tenant representation.

Jason earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and his MBA in Real Estate Finance from the University of San Diego.
