Description
This four-story former hospital building was transformed into a 42,000 square foot middle school for the Albert Einstein Academy. The project consisted of the demolition of the interior, along with partial demolition of the landscaping and existing parking lot. The new school houses a library, classrooms on the top three floors, a main staircase at the center of the building, a kitchen/servery adjacent to the physical education room, locker rooms, and science classrooms on the ground level. The parking lot was transformed into athletic courts and fields. The project was completed on schedule and in time for the school year.
Added Value
Hughes Marino’s program, project & construction management team collaborated with the Hughes Marino brokerage team to work with Albert Einstein Academies starting at the initial due diligence phase through entitlements, then managing the entire design, permitting, bidding and construction of improvements. Our project management team also coordinated with the neighboring hospital, CNRI, to complete the construction separation work and ensure all CUP conditions were completed prior to final inspections.
Service Provided
Hughes Marino’s project management team performed weekly site visits, constructability reviews, documentation control, and change order review. Additionally, our team worked with the city to complete all of the CUP conditions and managed the completion of the off-site and right-of-way improvements. Hughes Marino also worked with a LEED consultant to help AEA receive their Savings By Design credits and LEED Silver certification.
