About

Dave Bates, senior vice president with the Program, Project and Construction Management team at Hughes Marino, a global corporate real estate advisory firm specializing in tenant representation and project management, brings more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry to the team.

Dave earned his B.S. in construction from Arizona State University. He has since worked on projects for clients in a variety of industries totaling over 4M SF. Selected biotech clients include Receptos; OncoSec; The Medicines Company; Agena Bioscience and QuidelOrtho. Selected technology clients include Verimatrix; RedIT and Samsung Semiconductor. Selected educational facility clients include Albert Einstein Academy, as well as campus facilities for Hillel of San Diego at SDSU and UCSD. Dave was also involved in the construction of the City of San Diego’s  Fire Station No. 2.

Prior to joining the Hughes Marino team, Dave worked at Suffolk-Roel Construction (previously ROEL Construction) overseeing diverse types of projects for 16 years. Dave’s projects span a range of disciplines including standard office tenant improvements (TI’s), manufacturing TI’s, specialty tech lab TI’s, SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) TI’s, ground-up structural steel and wood framed buildings, and a campus project that included an office tower, parking structure, renovations to an existing manufacturing facility and a cogeneration central plant.

Dave’s extensive skill set includes estimating for various types of projects, budget and cost controls, schedule preparation and analysis, and contract and change order negotiation, always with a focus on client service.

Dave and his wife, Chris, live in San Diego. He enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children, camping and golfing.
