600 B Street Ownership Attempting to Convert Former City Office Space to Hotel
As a result of being only 45% occupied for more than a year, the ownership of 600 B Street (currently with Bridgepoint on the building top sign) is trying a new strategy: Convert the lower half of the building (formerly occupied by the City of San Diego for 20+ years) into a hotel! They are currently marketing it for an outright sale with the draw being the office-to-hotel conversion. The challenge will be keeping the remaining tenants (and attracting new ones) if a lower-building conversion were to happen, as it will certainly change the make-up of the project. Maybe call it the Best Western Building? Super 8 High-Rise Hotel?
Bids Submitted for 7th & Market Development
The three finalists for the downtown city block bounded by 7th, 8th, Market and Island (just north of Sempra’s new headquarters) have submitted their multi-use (residential, hotel and office) development plans! The finalists include: Cisterra (developers of Diamondview Tower and the new Sempra headquarters building directly to the south of this site); Douglas Wilson Companies (developer of The Mark condominium tower directly to the east of the site); and Robert Green & Co. (developer of at least two Montage Resorts). Civic San Diego will be reviewing the submissions and will recommend a winner to City Council soon. Regardless of who wins, any of the three projects will be great additions to downtown!
