Hughes Marino, the national flagship brand for providing commercial real estate services, exclusively for tenants and buyers, has unveiled the design of its latest office in Downtown Seattle to the public this month. The company opened their Seattle office in early July, and is one of many companies recently expanding to the Seattle market, as it has rapidly become the fastest growing city in the country.
The commercial real estate firm set out to make a stunning first impression on Seattle’s bustling business world, first with a workspace that would inspire their team and clients and continue to instill their national and local recognition as the #7 Best Workplace in the nation and #4 Best Workplace in Southern California (Fortune), the #2 Top Company Culture in the nation (Entrepreneur) and the #1 Best Place to Work by the Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego Business Journals.
Located on the 25th story of the Russell Investments Center, Hughes Marino’s Seattle office offers stunning views, from the breathtaking scenery of Mt. Rainier to the Olympic Mountains, to panoramic sights of the Puget Sound and the energetic Seattle waterfront below.
President & COO Shay Hughes and Chairman & CEO Jason Hughes wanted to retain the family-oriented, home-like atmosphere that has become synonymous with the Hughes Marino brand, while also reflecting the hip persona of Seattle. “We craft all of our offices with amenities and signature residential design elements that invoke an engaging, stimulating and collaborative environment where our team feels right at home. We have a very familial culture, so ensuring our offices feel like a home away from home for our amazing teammates, clients and the communities we serve is one of our highest priorities,” says Shay Hughes.
Initial inspiration for the interior design of Hughes Marino Seattle was drawn from a 1960’s Vogue Magazine cover with pink and emerald green accents. That same cover is showcased in the office reception area as a reminder of the inspiration that sparked it all. The once hollowed space was drastically transformed by adding warm and charming decor, complete with a living area, gourmet kitchen, glass-walled offices, two conference rooms and a game area.
Furniture throughout the space adds a charm that could only be accomplished by Shay Hughes’ keen eye for design. The inviting living room features a Shabby Chic emerald green couture velvet sofa, vibrant pink tufted chairs and an oversized black and white ottoman from Room and Board. Playful accessories and fashion books are displayed on a brass and black étagère by Kelly Hoppen. Vintage Scrabble pieces, whimsical animal accents and coffee trays with clever quotations are sprinkled throughout the space to portray the feel of a five-star hotel. The 25-foot kitchen features an oversized family farm table by Restoration Hardware—a staple at every Hughes Marino office—complete with a vintage wood bench and white Herman Miller dining chairs, perfect for their team to share meals together.
Jason and Shay Hughes spared no expense when equipping the team with top-of-the-line furniture. Hughes Marino Seattle features two large conference rooms to accommodate up to twenty, both with stunning views overlooking the Puget Sound. One room hosts a 21-foot black marble conference table, and the other an all-white Ice Cube marble table, complete with Lambert and Fils chandeliers and separated by glass storefronts with automatic Mecho shades for privacy. All Hughes Marino team members are suited with Steelcase office furniture, height adjustable desks, leather chairs and state-of-the-art technology, including extra large monitors and video phones to connect everyone in the company with face-to-face calls.
Pieces by world-renowned artists are showcased throughout the space to add even more personality to Hughes Marino Seattle. Their game area hosts a 60’’ x 60’’ specially-commissioned piece by Anja Van Herle, with over 8,000 Swarovski crystals. A vibrant Audrey Hepburn Givenchy piece by Robert Mars and limited edition 1965 photography of Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn by famous celebrity photographer Douglas Kirkland are featured in the front reception area.
One conference room is home to two large graffiti pieces by famed artist Crash. A series of four vintage Barbie prints by Beau Dunn dresses up the Operations area, along with an imaginative Neon Space Girl piece to inspire in a collaboration office. Gallery walls display a mix of inspirational quotes, vintage photography and iconic architecture in individual offices. Every Hughes Marino location features a playful larger-than-life multimedia piece by Gary Polonsky, and the oversized Starbucks coffee cup with sleeve perfectly complements their kitchen, while paying tribute to one of Seattle’s most successful companies.
As an added touch of home, the gourmet kitchen is bright and cheerful, featuring white cabinetry with brass pulls, an oblong hexagon white backsplash and floating shelves to display colorful kitchen decor from Anthropologie and Crate & Barrel. Next to the kitchen is a fully stocked game area—complete with billiards, shuffleboard and video gaming tables, where the team can enjoy friendly competition in between meetings.
Perhaps one of the most unassuming rooms in Hughes Marino Seattle is the storage and copy room—which looks more like a stylish feminine closet—where guests can store their coats during the rainy season. A muted glow from the overhead custom brass fixtures provides the perfect light to showcase the bright pink peony wallpaper. Some say this “pretty in pink” room is their favorite spot in the entire office.
From the vintage feminine figures and the eclectic mix of antiques and modern finishes, to the playful accessories at every turn, Hughes Marino’s latest office is impressive, yet comfortable, inviting and unpretentious. By reflecting the company’s ten Core Values and family atmosphere, and their undying devotion to protecting the rights of commercial tenants, their Seattle workspace will continue to cultivate an award-winning culture for their team to be proud of and enjoy. By adding pops of color, unique furniture and elements of home, the company has witnessed firsthand how little details can go a long way to re-energize any team and office.
