Construction Roundup: Anduril Industries, TuSimple, eMolecules & More

By Dean Petersen

As we head into fall, our program, project and construction management team has made great progress and completed some exciting projects. Take a peek at some of the projects we are proud to be a part of!

Anduril Industries’ State-of-the-Art Headquarters

Defense technology company Anduril Industries’ new headquarters is a unique mix of creative office space, amenities and functional area to develop new technology. A large portion of the building is purely dedicated for machine rooms and workshop areas where Anduril’s team develops new products. Then, in a more traditional sense, this new headquarters has plenty of creative office space with meeting rooms, huddle areas as well as multiple kitchens. One additional goal for Anduril’s leadership was to upgrade amenity space to attract top talent. As such, the buildout included restaurant style dining hall, a gym, outdoor space and quiet library areas.

Working with the Hughes Marino brokerage team, Hughes Marino’s program, project & construction management team helped identify the project site, budget and timeline, in addition to playing an integral role throughout the lease and work letter negotiation. This particular project included high-end finishes and a complex design, and Hughes Marino was alongside Anduril during the entire project to ensure design and construction goals were met. We couldn’t be happier for the outcome and were honored to work on this project!

TuSimple Finds New Space Due to Growth

TuSimple is continuously growing their U.S. headquarters, specifically expanding their current office space. Doubling in size within the last year, Hughes Marino assisted with finding their team additional space in their current building to prepare for the growth of their team.

The project consisted of a retrofit of an existing suite on the 4th and 5th floors within their current building and focused heavily on branding and company culture. A spacious kitchen and all new state-of-the-art furniture were included in the new suite.

After determining their growth plan, TuSimple elected to also retrofit their existing suite on the 6th floor. Hughes Marino worked with the project partners to create a detailed schedule for complete office upgrades including new finishes and upgraded furniture. Over the course of five weeks, the TuSimple project team successfully upgraded the suite with no impacts to day-to-day operations. Their space is bright and inspiring, and we are so happy to have played a role in this project!

Hughes Marino Helps eMolecules Find the Perfect Space for Their Team

eMolecules empowers researchers to explore uncharted chemical and biological spaces and deliver more efficient drug-discovery programs, and our team was honored to help them find the perfect space for their new corporate headquarters.

The new space features open floor plans, high-end amenity spaces with modern finishes as well as live plants that hang from the ceiling. Hughes Marino helped move eMolecules into their space in just 12 weeks of construction time, with zero general contractor change orders. We cannot wait to see where their future takes them next!

Cortica Partners with Hughes Marino Team to Open Several Treatment Centers

We are helping Cortica, a leading provider of advanced neurological therapies, open three to four treatment centers per year for children with challenges in sensory, motor, social or language abilities. The projects involve clinical-type office space with large lobbies and waiting areas, multiple types and sizes of treatment rooms, an activity space (gym) with climbing walls and various ways to keep the kids in motion to aid in their therapy.

The team helped create a tight timeline, to align with Cortica’s desire to open a new location approximately every three months within a strict budget. Hughes Marino has been charged with holding the design team to a strict timeline so we can produce drawings to hard bid each location to multiple contractors to get the best possible value for Cortica. Our first three projects have been delivered on time and on budget with minimal out-of-pocket funds from Cortica. We’re truly inspired by Cortica’s mission to serve children and cannot wait to see more of their locations come to life!

Macdonald & Cody’s Functional Space Takes Shape

Macdonald & Cody has officially moved and now occupies 18,000 square feet of brand-new space in Executive Park. Their new home is well-suited for a litigation law firm: lined with private offices and cubicle space in addition to amenities like an upgraded reception area, a large break room for team members, large and small conference rooms for depositions and client meetings and a comfortable mother’s room.

With a tight time schedule, Hughes Marino helped structure the critical lease dates to match what could be achieved by a design and construction team. Already out of space in their prior office, Macdonald & Cody needed a short timeline and tight budget with very little room for error. Hughes Marino was able to successfully manage the design and construction to stay under budget at bid time and through completion of the project, while getting Macdonald & Cody into their new space ahead of schedule.
