Description

San Diego’s Bayside Fire Station No. 2 is located in Little Italy at the corner of Pacific Highway and Cedar Street. This new station is a much-needed addition to the downtown landscape and provides shorter response times to areas west of the downtown train tracks. Designed to accent the County Building, also positioned on Pacific Coast Highway, Fire Station No. 2 is a beautiful new sight to downtown residents. With sleek architecture, sustainable features like solar panels and a green roof, underground parking, and City commissioned art, Fire Station No. 2 is a great landmark in San Diego that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Added Value

Due to the project location and design of the structure, Fire Station No. 2 was a very complicated build. Site constraints left little room for man power or material on site and the structure itself required a very detailed coordination effort to complete. Hughes Marino, alongside Civic San Diego, Rob Quigley Architects, and Barnhart Reese Construction, was able to play a major role in bringing the building to life on behalf of the City of San Diego.

Service Provided

From constructability, specification, and document reviews, to contract negotiations and schedule monitoring, Hughes Marino laid the groundwork for success for the City of San Diego in this momentous project. Further, Bayside Fire Station No. 2 was selected as the APWA 2019 Project of the Year, and the project also received LEED Gold certification. Hughes Marino is honored to have been a part of this amazing project that not only is a beautiful community landmark but is essential to protect the Bayfront and so many other properties in our neighborhood.
