Michelle Gallegos is a design associate and strategist on Hughes Marino’s Planning + Design team. With a focus on workplace strategy, she translates an organization’s culture, goals and requirements into preliminary and conceptual designs. In the process, Michelle establishes purpose and utility for clients’ workspaces early in the design process, ensuring a seamless transition from strategy to implementation. Michelle proposes creative design concepts and strategies to maximize space utilization, provide detailed material solutions and support the project vision, while building strong relationships between clients, users, developers and other real estate professionals.

Michelle was formerly a designer at Gensler where she specialized in large scale projects. Her practice areas included design strategy, office building and high-rise development, workplace design for government and defense, life sciences and laboratories, technology and tenant and building improvement. One of her most notable projects is the 2.9 million square foot Manchester Pacific Gateway development in Downtown San Diego, where she was the lead interior designer for the 375,000 square foot ground-up project for the Pacific Naval Fleet Headquarters. She also co-led the interior design for three additional ground-up, mixed use and office space buildings on the development.

Michelle is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior design. Additionally, she is a graduate of the U.S. Marine Corps Officer Platoon Leadership Course based in Quantico, Virginia, an associate member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and certified as a LEED Green Associate.

Originally from New Mexico, Michelle enjoys sunrise runs, spin classes and hiking, as well as playing piano, practicing charcoal drawing, traveling and practicing her favorite Hughes Marino core value, “Enjoy the journey.”
