McAlister Institute Board of Directors Adds Member

SAN DIEGO – Shane Poppen, Associate Vice President at Hughes Marino, has joined the Board of Directors at the nonprofit McAlister Institute, a regional leader in drug treatment, drug intervention, and services to adults and teens throughout San Diego County. In addition to his work on the McAlister Institute board, he chairs the organization’s development committee, which will launch the inaugural Walk for Sobriety on August 4.

Poppen, a native Southern Californian, specializes in tenant representation in the suburban markets of San Diego County. His experience includes site selection, strategic planning and needs assessment, financial analysis, negotiation and transaction structuring for lease renewals, relocations and renegotiations.

Poppen graduated with provost honors and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego. He was a four-year letter winner and captain of UCSD’s basketball team. In addition to his community work with McAlister Institute, Poppen serves as a Board Committee member promoting Hunger Action Month for Feeding America San Diego, as camp director for Bill Walton’s inaugural Inter-Tribal Sports basketball camp supporting San Diego’s Native American youth, as youth basketball coach for the San Diego YMCA, and fundraising for YMCA’s Annual Giving Program. Shane and his wife, Becky, reside in La Jolla.
