Harley Ellis Devereaux’s San Diego office is the perfect mix of classy, collaborative, and creative. It is the epitome of smart design, and it’s no surprise that it is home to one of the country’s most esteemed design firms. With a 100-plus year track record, HED has mastered it all – from student housing to corporate headquarters to life science labs – and the company’s work speaks for itself.

Large porcelain tiles adorn the lobby floor and extend up the walls, creating a grand, sweeping entrance for visitors to the space. Clean lines draw visitors’ eyes towards the firm’s brand mark mounted on the wall and on to the bright, collaborative workspaces beyond.

To create visual transparency, HED utilized glass walls in both the conference room and private offices, allowing for increased communication and collaboration while still providing private space for meetings and phone calls.

Modern pendant light fixtures, pin-up walls showcasing their gorgeous project case studies, whiteboards and TV monitors adorn the conference room, making it the ideal workspace to dive into design. Just outside the formal “design studio” is the firm’s technical library which connects the private conference space to the rest of the suite.

Harley Ellis Devereaux designed the space to flow from the more formal reception and conference areas to individual workstations to informal, studio-like collaboration space. The designers utilized long tables rather than cubicles, with maple veneer plywood work surfaces providing a beautiful contrast in both color and texture to the porcelain tile floors and dark gray carpets.

Floor-to-ceiling windows allow for maximum exposure to breathtaking city views. The neutral colors and materials are warmed by the incredible amount of natural light in the space. The combination makes the space not only pleasant and comfortable, but inspiring, and the perfect place to create beautiful spaces. All of these elements add up to make Harley Ellis Devereaux another space that we love in America’s Finest City.
