Earlier this month, Hughes Marino had the awesome opportunity to view the progress being made at the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) courtesy of Rudolph and Sletten, the project’s general contractor. When all is said and done, this state-of-the-art facility is going to encompass more than 360,000 square feet. But the project’s size is not the only impressive part – this facility will be truly spectacular.

The Altman CTRI is being constructed on the UCSD campus for the purpose of bringing the latest medical research, treatments and discoveries directly to patients. The facility will ultimately house wet lab space, dry research space, and space for engineers to bring to life the devices that will help those afflicted with a variety of illnesses. To boot, the accessibility of the Institute to UCSD medical facilities will help eliminate delays in bringing promising treatments to patients. To put it another way: the Altman CTRI at UCSD will allow for medical research and treatment to be conducted in one convenient, collaborative location.

The work being done by Rudolph and Sletten is sophisticated to say the least. Although the building won’t be completed until 2016, the progress made thus far is already inspiring. The entire Hughes Marino team was thrilled when Rudolph and Sletten so graciously extended the offer for us to get a sneak peek at this impressive facility, which will ultimately house some of the most cutting-edge bio-medical research facilities in Southern California. To see a project of such significance, that requires so much coordination, skill, and sheer talent by those building it – in person, and behind the scenes – was a treat for our team members.

From the philanthropists to the builders, to the scientists, engineers and physicians, there is no doubt that the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute is already a bringing the gift of hope to the San Diego community.
