Summer has arrived, and we are happy to report several exciting updates on some of our projects! Here’s a look at what our Program, Project and Construction Management team has been up to this past quarter.
Vistage Worldwide, a peer-to-peer membership organization for CEOs, business owners and executives of small- to mid-size businesses, has moved into their new headquarters. The 59,000 square foot tenant improvement project includes office, conference and amenity space, along with a training center. As the world’s leading executive coaching organization, Vistage Worldwide’s new training center will allow the team to conduct their seminars and training sessions on site and provide a top-notch experience for their clients. FS Design Group designed the space and Prevost Construction was the general contractor.
Tocagen Relocates to their New Headquarters
Tocagen, a biopharmaceutical company developing gene therapy products for the treatment of cancer, moved into their new headquarters in June to pursue their work to make their mission statement, “No One Should Die of Cancer”, a reality. The office and lab project is over 38,000 square feet of offices and labs on two stories of the 7-story building. The project moved them out of their existing space which was initially more of an incubator space. Their expansion forced compartmentalized space that was not very functional for them. Their new space is open and inviting, and connects everyone that make their business a success. Hughes Marino worked alongside with architectural firm DGA and general contractor JB Pacific. Together with the client’s team, the project provided a more fitting space for the Tocagen team to call their new home.
Bayside Fire Station No. 2’s Grand Opening
San Diego’s Bayside Fire Station No. 2 serving the Little Italy neighborhood is now OPEN! Mayor Kevin Faulconer officially opened the station on June 28th with a grand opening celebration including the project team, the fire station crew and neighbors that will be served by the station. The 24,000 square foot, 4-story station, commissioned by our client, Civic San Diego, was designed by Rob Wellington Quigley Architects and built by Barnhart-Reese Construction. Hughes Marino is especially proud to be part of such an important and monumental civic project that will help keep the neighborhood of Little Italy safe for many generations to come.
Xeris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Opens New Space
Xeris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. recently occupied their newly improved space this summer. The 17,105 square foot project consisted of approximately 8,000 square feet of lab space and 9,000 square feet of office space. Built in a repositioned ARE project, some of the new features include an adjacent outdoor area accessible through a roll up door in their new break room. The space has an open structure design with multiple conference rooms, private offices with sliding barn doors and overhead fans for passive cooling. The lab spaces have single pass air with distributed utilities and generator backup. Hughes Marino is proud to have worked alongside Xeris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and the project team which included architectural firm McFarlane Architects, general contractor Level 10, and Furniture vendor Innovative Commercial Environment.
EA Health, an area leader in healthcare revenue cycle management recently relocated their headquarters. The space is open and inviting and features a majority of offices placed off the window line allowing the maximum amount of light to filter through the space. The offices also feature glass fronts to allow for further access to the exterior view. The project team included LPA, H+W Engineering and Burger Construction.
Innovative Commercial Environments
Innovative Commercial Environments recently relocated their showroom to an amazing light-filled space. Their new workspace features sealed concrete floors and exposed ceilings. The suite is well positioned to take advantage of the 12’ high exterior glazing with a large sliding door that opens up to the campuses’ Great Lawn. The space is furnished with large expanses of glass demountable partitions and made use of modular Teknion cabinets for the kitchen and library areas, and created an even more warm and inviting feel through the use of natural materials including live edge wood and preserved moss at the entry. Hughes Marino worked alongside the ICE team, Ware Malcomb and Burger Construction on this very successful project.
