Our Core Values in Action: Generously Giving to Others

By Briana Iverson

At Hughes Marino, we believe in giving back to many local nonprofit organizations that make up the backbone of our communities as well as nation. Our Core Value #8 is to generously give to others and last December, some of our amazing team members put this core value into action.

Several of our generous San Diego team members volunteered at Feeding San Diego and helped with their reclamation process–which involved checking expiration dates and sorting food to get ready for distribution to those in need. Feeding San Diego is the leading hunger relief organization in the county with branches through the United States, providing 26 million meals with dignity to San Diego residents facing hunger last year. Focused on healthy food, education and advocacy, Feeding San Diego is building a hunger-free and healthy community through innovative programs and collaborative partnerships, and we are honored to help them with their mission!

Did you know that 1 in 8 San Diegans face hunger? When we learned about this statistic, we knew that we all wanted to make a difference in some way to help battle the war against hunger. Not only does Feeding San Diego help with the hunger our community faces on a daily basis, but they also hold events and special distributions during extreme times of need such as natural disasters and more.

Learning about organizations who are dedicated to helping their communities motivates us all at Hughes Marino to help out in any way we can and be grateful for all that we have in our own lives. We collectively log thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars annually in charitable contributions. Last year we even introduced another benefit for our amazing team! Each team member is provided 3 paid days off to volunteer at causes that are dear to their hearts. Some of our team members have assisted homeless veterans, volunteered in feeding the homeless, assisted those who have faced domestic violence and more.

As a company and as individuals, we are committed to giving back to the communities that nurture us and we look forward to every chance we get to do so! A huge thank you to our team members who volunteered at Feeding San Diego, as well as to the rest of our team who are volunteering behind the scenes across our communities to give back and make a difference in the lives of those in need.
